"Whatever befalls the earth befalls the sons
and daughters of the earth." - Chief Seattle
Growing up, I - Angela Boney - had to accept the old
adage of "wherever you lay your head is your home"; however, since
moving to Florida in 2006 I've learned that, unless I'm in an area that
provides mountains and glacier-fed lakes, I am completely out of my element.
Speaking of elements, after taking a crash course on
cancer in 2012 because a family member was unexpectedly diagnosed with
Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, I developed a keen interest in how us human folk
chemically affect the environment and how that comes back to haunt us via our
food, water, and air. I thankfully came to realize in my mid-20s that life
isn't all about making money and decided to go back to school in order to learn
something that will enable me to help the environment, humans, and the planet.
During this course I hope to get technical hands on
experience as well as figure out if the ocean is an environmental area I'd like
to focus on. One day, once I've received
an A.S. or B.S. degree from Daytona State College, I'd love to move to the West
Coast, specifically Oregon or Washington, and spend the rest of my life doing
something that has a positive impact on this planet.
Beautiful job, Angela!! I'm excited to see what you accomplish in this lab.
