Carly, UR - Just the beginning

In this post I'm going to be talking about my first week of collecting data for my independent research project, so if you would like to know more about it please visit my previous post.

This past week was the first week I've really started recording my data.  I found out a few new things about OCEARCH's search options for sharks that helps me narrow down the time of pings so I don't need to search for each individual every time just to see if they've pinged lately.
Beaufort pinged 4 times in the span of about 3 hours.
Something that I've found already is that once a shark is at the surface, about 70% of the time they will ping more than once that day, I'll start recording how many times they ping in that day as well to see if there is a trend between the amount of times they ping in that day and the current sea surface temperature.

Other than that I haven't found anything else.  I'm excited to get started on this project though and will continue to update in the continuing weeks!

Fins and grins,
Carly

  1. Janice Sec. 101 Hi Carly, what a cool project. Would you mind telling me more about the websites you are using to collect your data from? How did you find them and what kind of data can you get? Other stuff if it's important.
